The People vs. Judge Judy

Written by Confusion support on August 25, 2008 – 12:26 pm -

Is there something seriously wrong with people?  Are people so thrilled with stupidity they will pay any price to see it?

Most of us have heard of Judge Judy.  I recently read where she makes 45 million a year!  Are you people nuts!?  I’ve watched Judge Judy once or twice and got very little entertainment value out of it.  It was ok, but not some great piece of entertainment!  They’d have to pay me to actually go watch it in person.  Isn’t this is a mockery of the law system?   Should the state governments allow supposed lawyers and judges to be public entertainers for the purpose of making exorbitant amounts of money?  Something seems wrong about that.  How much of the show is actually truth and how much is entertainment anyway?  Come on, you don’t honestly think that the entire show is the complete truth!  It wouldn’t make money if it was.  The truth is never as entertaining as fiction.  (Note: Some people still swear pro wrestling is completely real)

I stayed home from work recently and turned the TV on for a brief period (rarely do I have time during the day to actually watch TV).  Every other channel seemed to be a “judge” show.  How many of these rich fools are there now?  I can’t keep up.  Personally, I got bored with them just from that one day of seeing them.  But the real fools are not these semi-fake judges making the big bucks.  They are just living the American dream of taking advantage of the common man for their own gain, and laughing all the way to the bank.

Keep in mind; these types of silly entertainers are paid from advertising revenue.  The price of products on store shelves goes up as these entertainers are paid more, based on the number of people watching.  Advertising expenses are of course part of the price of the products you buy.  I personally don’t appreciate having to pay higher prices for products to help fund completely idiotic entertainment.  Ok, so that’s my opinion.  You may think differently, and there may be some who just can’t wait to watch Judge Judy daily.  Although maybe they should ask people that kind of stuff on job interviews, to gage the rational ability of the interviewee.

The real fools are probably the common American citizen actually watching this crap over and over.  If no one watched it, Judge Judy or Judge Joe Brown wouldn’t make a dime.  Have you ever asked yourself, “Why am I even watching this crap?”  Maybe I am just overactive, but I have never been able to find a satisfactory answer, as I’ve always found better things to do with my time…like watching a plant grow or water boil.

Well, I actually watch Judge Judy with some regularity, and have always enjoyed the court shows. Why? I’m not really sure. I suppose it’s because I always had an interest in the law, and in spite of the fact that editing and probably even some scripting make these shows somewhat suspect, I still find the legal arguments and reactions of the participants interesting. Regarding Judge Judy specifically, I often think her decisions are based on personal prejudice rather than any legal basis, but watching her lay into someone does have some entertainment value at times.

I feel there is at least some validity to these court shows, but regardless, in a capitalist society, there’s no limit to what you can earn, and I suppose I’d rather have that than any alternative. Now if you want to talk about someone making tons of money for doing practically nothing, have you heard of Jerry Springer…
