Seat Belts and Cell Phones

A person nearly ran into me today while they were, what appeared to be, texting on their cell phone.  I had to laugh as I looked down and saw the seat belt I was wearing.  The mentality of people totally amazes me.  In my state it is illegal to drive, or ride in a car, without a seat belt but not to text message, or talk, on a cell phone while driving.  Excuse me people…which one of those appears to be the most dangerous to other drivers?  This is an embarrassment to me that state legislatures allow this, and they have for many years.  You either have to set consistent rules or none at all.  I don’t think wearing a set belt is keeping any other person, but myself, safe on the road.  Yet I am not allowed to drive without a seat belt as I text on my cell phone, not paying any attention to my actual driving.  Shouldn’t I be in charge of my own body?  But obviously I am a little more intelligent about life than most of the law makers here in my state.

I had to chuckle again as a motorcyclist passed by with no helmet on.  Again I glanced at my seatbelt.  Which one is personally more dangerous to the individual driver, a person driving a huge SUV with a seatbelt on, or a hard to see driver on a small motorcycle with no helmet?  It is ridiculous to not know the answer.

Next a school bus went by with a few little kids standing up switching seats.  I felt dumbfounded and overwhelmed with hilarity. There are no seat belts on school buses yet it is a law that everyone in a vehicle must wear a seat built, but apparently little kids are exempt if they are on a taxpayer paid vehicle with multiple children onboard.  They can usually stand up and switch seats at random as well, in a moving bus.  There is no law against that.

I can only laugh at the human race, because to take it seriously would be pure madness.
