Red Light Ignoring

I’m confused as to whether or not cars now have to actually stop at red lights!  Let me count the many times I’ve nearly broadsided a car turning in front of me, as they went through a red light.  Let me tally the number of times I could not proceed forward through my green light, because cars were still making left hand turns in front of me going through their red light.  Let me ADD the number times I watched cars in front of me proceed through a solid red light when they could have easily stopped!

This is becoming a serious problem of modern driving!  I admit I have even done it myself, although I have not stretched the limits like some have.  I at least have been in motion being nearly under the light when it went from yellow to red.  But I daily see cars blatantly going through solid red lights, jeopardizing others.  This is pushing your luck a little bit too much!

I swear this all just started a few years ago.  So what started it?  What triggered this risky-ness now seen in humans?  Is it just another effect of ever-increasing fast living?  How far will it go?

It probably didn’t help that “right turns on red” are now allowed.  Few people seem to interpret that rule correctly.  It’s as if that was eventually exaggerated to mean that the red lights are more a guide than the law.  If there were enough police officers, the amount of revenue from fines dealing with red light violations alone would be enormous!

I am just confused as to the reason people have started, in the last few years, to blow off red lights.  I would be totally unconcerned with this if it didn’t effect me in any way.  But soon I have to start teaching my oldest child to drive!  Now, how safe will it be out there!  I don’t need extra worries.
