Comcast

Comcast is not the easiest company to deal with. They also charge you to death with extra fees which really make no logical sense. It is probably best to avoid them if at all possible.
Why do they charge you monthly “rent” on their remote control for the digital cable box? You can’t use the box without the remote so you don’t have any say in the matter. “Rent” implies that it is the consumer’s choice if he wants to use a product or not. These idiots charge you rent on a device that you need to have! You would think they could use a little more intelligence and just raise the price of the service, or charge you if you lose or damage the remote.
I had high speed cable internet hooked up by them as well. That nearly turned into a Keystone Cop adventure. First off, their high speed internet is not, in real use, noticeably faster than using DSL. I had switched from a smaller cable internet company to the much larger Comcast, ordered the same “mps” speed, and Comcast was noticeably slower than the smaller company. They claim it is my lines, which may or may not be true. But they did change most of the lines. I simply think they are getting too big too fast.
I had purchased a Comcast modem and service in a rebate deal offered from a third party on the internet. Everything went fine there and the modem looked good. The first Comcast installer claimed the modem hadn’t been “reset” correctly, and he couldn’t get it to work, so he installed a different modem. Eventually he left my house and said everything was working fine. I later found out it wasn’t. He took the first modem with him, claiming he would send it back to the warehouse.
Later that day when I tried the internet connection it did not work, and the second modem completely locked up. I had to have another Comcast installer come out. A few days later, they came out and installed yet more lines, and another modem, saying the second modem also was broken. All during this process several Comcast employees were very unfriendly and tried to pressure me to admit that the internet connection had worked for at least a day. If I said it had, they would have charged me for the trouble call.
Just one or two days later I got my first bill from Comcast. They didn’t waste any time with that! I noticed a $3 per month modem rental charge. The first installer had taken my modem which I paid for. So now Comcast has stolen my paid-for modem and is also charging me rent on a replacement modem. Currently I am still trying to resolve this problem, but we all know how customer oriented customer service is.

Update 5/19/2008. Comcast did make good on this problem and removed the MODEM RENTAL fee from my bill. So they are not entirely bad at customer service. Thanks Comcast!
