‘Thrill Kill’ Murder Trial in Michigan: Michigan vs. Jean Pierre Orlewicz

I began watching the trial of Orlewicz last week. I had not heard anything about it prior to that time, but I became interested in it as soon as I began watching it on Court TV. Criminal Trials are interesting to me because in most cases I don’t understand how any jury or any person for that matter could possibly convict someone and not have a “reasonable doubt”, when there are so many people testifying and saying totally different things. It’s pretty much a matter of opinion as to who to believe, right?
From what I have seen, no one on the jury knows what is ‘really’ going on during a trial other than what they are “allowed” to hear and see. It’s kind of like any sport in this country, or people who are running for a political office, it’s two sides against each other, both trying to win. In my mind this means they will do or say anything they can to win, including lying! They take people and talk to them and question them for hours on end, repeatedly telling them what they want to hear until the person being questioned finally believes it themselves, or they are so worn out trying to argue what REALLY happened that they just go with it and agree to do whatever it is they want.
I did not watch all of this Orlewicz trial, but I watched a lot of it and listened to it as much as I could. I have seen them replay many portions I had missed. After watching the witnesses for the prosecution, I was thinking how horrible this was, and then seeing J. P. Orlewicz, who was an 18 year old man that looked like a kid, it was almost unbelievable! Watching the trial the day Orlewicz testified, I actually felt sorry for the people on that jury because it would have been so difficult to decide what to do. How could they possibly know what really happened when there were so many different testimonies? As horrible a crime as this was, it makes you wonder where that “reasonable doubt” comes into play, doesn’t it?
There has been much talk in blogs regarding this Orlewicz case, about it happening because of video games, movies, or the parents. No one really knows what is causing these things to happen. I blame society more than anything. This country has gone mad with laws and the way kids are raised these days. All kids have to do is threaten parents with reporting child abuse, and they get their way. It seems in almost every case, ‘they’ believe the child (or teenager) no matter what. Why do most parents think they both need to work when they could survive on one income and one of them could be home properly raising the kids? Punishment to kids from parents (or anyone else) is all but forgotten anymore. You take your kids to the hospital for an illness and they immediately check for bruises. God forbid they find one because then there is a possibility your child will be taken to a foster home. This is insane! Where is the logic in any of this behavior?
In addition, why on earth would people think they need to take “parenting classes”? Isn’t parenting kind of a natural thing that has been done for thousands of years? Why do so many mothers want to be like men and feel they are better off working than raising their children? These are the big questions we need to be asking! I have kids, who are grown, and I was home with them for most of their childhood. I can tell you why women want to go to work these days. It’s because it’s a hell of a lot easier to go to work than to stay home and raise kids and take care of a husband and a house, that’s why. But isn’t that the purpose of having kids, and a husband, and a house? Why have kids if you want someone to raise them for you so you can go to work?
Why do people think they need so much money these days? This is contributing to the problems. Why do people think they need to do EVERYTHING for their kids? Kids are taught that they can get away with anything because parents are trying to do everything for them. Most kids have all the money they could possibly want, without having to do anything for it because “they are kids”. They have cars when they start driving, but most of them don’t work, so why do they ‘need’ a car? It’s because their friends have one. They have TV’s in their rooms with all the cable channels on them, yet feel the need to go to the movies (which costs a fortune) every weekend to be with their friends. Not many kids pay their own way through college anymore because their parents pay for all of it, plus their living expenses while they are there. What is this teaching them? It surely isn’t teaching them to survive in the adult world, now is it? How many parents do you hear talking about their kids, saying that they are so smart, and can do this or that better than most, they are the best kids in the world and would never do anything wrong… bla bla bla… No one wants to see that their kids have flaws, but we all know for a fact, that every human has flaws… so YES… your kid has flaws, too! It all just kind of makes me sick… and we wonder why things like this Orlewicz murder case happen?
The world as we know it today is a very sad place for kids to be growing up. It is very scary to see how kids are being raised these days. You’d think people would see what is happening and try to fix it, truly making things better for their kids instead of thinking that what they are currently doing is making life easier for their kids. It obviously is not.
